You will need to determine what your average sales price is and what your selling costs will be. Then determine how many items you will have to sell to generate your desired profit amount.

Next, you should find ways to reduce selling costs. For example, rather than paying for each listing you post it may be more cost efficient to open an eBay store. This way you pay a fixed rate of about $16 for a permanent outpost.

You should also try to maintain a positive feedback score. Many potential buyers will shy away from sellers that have blemishes on their feedback rating. To avoid this make sure you ship your products on time, and make sure that you are honest about the items you are selling. Also, encourage your buyers to leave you good feedback if they are satisfied and you will do the same for them.

If you are buying items somewhere else and reselling them on eBay, it essential to know the value of the product before you purchase it. In order to have a successful home eBay business you need to be able to recognize a good find. For example, items that are brand new in the box always sell for more than used items. In addition, clothes with the tags still on them and brand name clothes are big ticket items. If you are unsure of how much an item will sell for, be cautious in investing too much in it initially.

Another important thing to remember when starting an eBay business is that you should value consistency over dumb luck. This means while surprises that result in extra money are nice, you shouldn’t count on them. It is better to focus your efforts on daily predictable averages.
