It takes time to build such a business, especially if you are new to Internet Marketing.

So, what does it take to earn a living from affiliate marketing? The answer is simple, time, diligence and a good website. Oh, and passion comes into play here too. Most importantly, many highly recommend that you not go for the most advertised affiliate products on the market.

The Internet is full of scams. Many of the products that claim to be “the best selling product” will turn out to be nothing but hype. Stick with topics you know and love. If you are a health nut, stick with products or websites that promote health related products. It comes down to what you have a passion for. One of the biggest reasons for this is because you need to build a genuine website, which is the next step. As a general rule, sites that have an actual domain name do much better than Internet spots like blogs. You want to give the big business look to your customers, it will lend you credibility which will equal more sales.

After you have chosen a domain and have built a nice looking website, you need to choose the product or products you want to promote. Some recommend starting with only a few, and again, selling products you believe in and would buy yourself. If your website looks like a portal where you can get everything from health and beauty tips to gambling tips by clicking on one of the hundreds of banners you have on the site, you lose credibility. In fact, if you have the means to do so, it is highly recommended to have one website that promotes one product. You can still make the website full of information and resources, but stick with one affiliate product or banner. Potential customers are smarter than you think and they know when you are genuine or when you are out to make a quick buck. You are much better off having a genuine website full of good useful information. If you have something good to offer visitors you are much more likely to get a sale and better yet, return visitors.

This brings you to your next step, getting traffic. Visitors equal sales. That is the bottom line with all Internet businesses. Once you have your site built you will need to get it noticed by the search engines. There are several ways you can do this. First of all, you should write or get someone else to write some good keyword rich articles that you can post on the site. Not only will this add some zing to your site, but also it will get you noticed by Google and Yahoo, which is a must. Secondly, write some articles and submit them to places such as Ezine Articles and Go Articles with links back to your site. This is one of the quickest ways to get noticed by Google especially. You should also take the time to post articles in forums related to your website’s theme.

Once you have your traffic, you will just have to keep at it. Write a few articles a day and post them on your site. You have to stay on top of it to keep the traffic rolling in. Remember, affiliate marketing can earn you a substantial income from the convenience of your home, but you will have to put time into it and it most definitely will test your patience.
